Fedora 17 – How To Install A Dark GTK Theme – DeLorean!

A reader commented on one of my images and wanted to know how to download and install the Fedora 17 Dark Theme DeLorean seen in my post Fedora 17 Desktop Install is Now Running. So here is a quick how to post.

DeLorean is a very slick and really beautiful dark GTK3 theme that is also very clean in its design allowing a relaxed usability that is always a difficult thing to achieve with dark themes.

How To Install Theme

1. Install the theme repo file and then install the theme.
   

   sudo yum-config-manager --add-repo="http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/jo-shva/Fedora_17/home:jo-shva.repo"
   sudo yum install delorean-dark-gtk3-theme delorean-dark-metacity-theme delorean-dark-gtk2-theme delorean-dark-gnome-shell-theme delorean-dark-cinnamon-theme delorean-dark-xfwm4-theme delorean-dark-openbox3-theme

2. Install the pre-requisites, you need gnome-tweak-tool and gnome-shell-extension-user-theme to activate your newly installed theme.
   

   sudo yum -y install gnome-tweak-tool
   sudo yum -y install gnome-shell-extension-user-theme

3. Run ‘Advanced Settings” from your application menu and select your new theme from the drop down.

How To Install Theme (Manually)

1. Download the theme file.
   
   Download DeLorean – A Dark GTK Theme680 downloads
2. Extract the theme file into ‘~./.themes/‘
   When its extracted, you should have a new folder ‘~./.themes/delorean-dark/‘
3. Install the pre-requisites, you need gnome-tweak-tool and gnome-shell-extension-user-theme to activate your newly installed theme.
   

   sudo yum -y install gnome-tweak-tool
   sudo yum -y install gnome-shell-extension-user-theme

4. Run ‘Advanced Settings” from your application menu and select your new theme from the drop down.
